Attorney Focus: Jimmy Snyder

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Between college and law school, I spent a year working in Mexico at a bird hunting lodge and teaching English in Spain. All of this was after a study abroad semester in Argentina. If I hadn’t gone to law school, I like to think that I would still be wandering the world somewhere.

What do you do to unwind?

In my free time you can find me outside with my furry pal Baxter. He’s the best dog, ever. Part Border Collie, part Labrador, and 100% energy, he’s a great excuse to get me outside in the sun or down at the lake. Otherwise, I love traveling to new destinations, trying different foods, and experiencing everything this world has to offer.

What inspired your legal career?

Growing up as the youngest sibling and the youngest amongst several cousins, I always wanted to follow in their footsteps. I saw two cousins and then my brother become attorneys, and as the youngest siblings tend to do, I wanted to be like them. To me, they had “made it” and I wanted in. Now, I’m lucky enough to represent fantastic clients, pursue something I’ve become passionate about, and work alongside some really incredible attorneys and family members. I’m truly lucky.

What are the best and worst things about your job?

The best thing about my job is working with some amazing clients. We really are fortunate at D&S that our clients are invested in the cases as well as being invested in us personally. Having that connection and familiarity with the clients makes representing them a personal passion. The worst thing about my job is knowing when to say “no.” I try to help out on every case, hearing, deposition, etc., but I’ve had to learn that sometimes you really can overcommit yourself. Learning to lean on others and accept that you can’t always tackle everything has been a valuable lesson.
